THE BLESSING
After the candles are lit we
cover our eyes and recite the
age-old blessing.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה אַדֹנָ-י אֱ-לֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו"
"וְצִוָּנוּ לְהַדְלִיק נֵר שֶׁל שַׁבָּת קֹדֶש
"Bo-ruch a-toh Ado-noi E-lo-hei-nu me-lech ho-olom
a-sher ki-de-sha-nu be-mitz-vo-sov ve-tzi-vo-nu
le-had-lik ner shel Shabbat ko-desh"
Blessed are you, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe, who has
sanctified us with His commandments to kindle the light of the Holy Shabbat.
While the Bracha is recited, it gives women the chance to reflect on the past week. It is a time for meditation and a chance to pray for whatever your heart desires for yourself, your family and your loved ones.
